Over the years we have seen all kinds of odd things in our industry.

These pictures are from an investor's building in Niceville, FL.  The picture of the return appeared to be big enough until you opened the grille and saw that the opening was only about 1/3 of what it was supposed to be.  The copper tubing was also undersized and only compounded the problem.  This caused the unit to whistle and be much less efficient.

These pictures were of a rental car place in Crestview, FL where the employees complained of being sick and having cold like symptoms.  What we found was someone had cut open a large piece of duct in the return side (the worse possible place this could occur) and never sealed the hole back.  There are three pictures.  The first is what we saw when we arrived with the cardboard covering the ducting.  The second is what was behind the unsecured cardboard that covered the whole in the ducting and you'll see the filth in the return ducting.  The last picture is of the loose blown fiberglass that was in the attic around the whole.  This would certainly cause sick building syndrome.

This unit caught on fire because the wires were burned by the hot liquid lines.  The insurance company insisted that we give a price to repair this system even though it was 8-10 years old and we would have to totally rebuild the low voltage circuitry/components and all wiring.

These pictures of a temporary power panel in south Walton beach area.  The electricians connected a $6000 geothermal system to this hodgepodge of wiring and turned on the system.  We were told that this was a full box (250') of wire that was undersized to begin with.  A few days later and we have a compressor fail.

We were called out to give an estimate to replace the troublesome system.  It seemed that the home owner had many compressor failures in the past several years.  We found the outside unit with three walls around it and an eight foot roof covering it.  The system could not get any air and that was causing the premature compressor failures and higher utility bills.

These are from a condo in the Destin Beach area.  The salt water is destroying these five year old units.  To make matters worse, the condos were full of unsealed areas and causing an infiltration nightmare.

This is a picture of a very pitiful duct system.  The homeowner complained of dusty rooms and many hot/cold spots.  We call this a spider duct system.  It takes about 1/3 the time and about 1/4 the material to install this type of duct system.  In other words, you'll save about $800-1000 in a typical 1600 square foot house on initial cost.  In return, you'll pay in higher utility bills, lower comfort, and a dirtier home for the life of the duct system.

This is a picture of a roof top unit in DeFuniak Springs, FL.  The landlord hired us to go and inspect the two roof top units and see what needed to be done to get them up to good operating condition.  If you'll look closely, you will only see one unit.  The second unit was missing!  These units weigh about a 1500 lbs and located on a 12 foot roof.  Not something that someone "accidentally" dropped in their pocket.

These two pictures is of a fairly old heat pump system in Niceville, FL.  The accumulator and service valve were in horrible shape and appeared to be ready to fail if not already losing freon.  The homeowner wanted to wait until it this unit was completely dead before replacement and complained that no one could fix his problem with the system.  The solution was replacement.  He was only prolonging his frustrations and putting off the inevitable.

The next pictures shows a return that has raw fiberglass in it.  The coil is filthy and stuff is actually growing on it!  We fixed the problem by lining the return and cleaning the coil.  The problem of unhealthy environment and high utility bills was solved.

These two pictures are from a home in Shalimar, FL.  The drain was a combination of 3/4" galvanized gas line, brass coupling for a water hose, 1/2" copper tubing, and 3/4" poly drain pipe.  The drain had a terrible buildup in it.

This home in Niceville, FL was complaining of hot rooms.  We went into the attic and found the previous contractor had used substandard materials.  Likely the builder wanted to keep costs down and the home owner paid for it with very high power bills, duct sweating (could damage ceiling), and uncomfortable rooms.

Three pictures of mold in ductwork.  The duct system was rather clean with the exception of the last piece.  Cleaning this ductwork would not have done any good since the problem was the separation in the duct joints.  Cleaning it would have only intensified the situation.

Some really nasty duct.  It used to be yellow.
