Hathorn's 4100+ sq. ft home with
$110 power bill???
2001 APEX
Award Winner & Aurora Award Winner!
Mr. Hathorn
and I met at the 1998 Home Show where we discussed his
upcoming home in Niceville, Florida. The Hathorn's wanted
to build a home with 12' ceilings coupled with 4100+ square
foot of living space and still have affordable power bills.
The home was built with comfort and efficiency in mind.
Like the Newby's home, this home is almost sound proof and
hurricane proof. This home has a theater, home gym,
billiard room, and hot tub area.
This 4100+ square feet home has a total utility bill
averaging about $92* per month including the hot tub that
consumes about $11 per month of electricity.
There are several pictures in the
Arxx Building Products page. Most of the cellulose, radiant
barriers, and geothermal are almost identical to the Newby's
home so I did not duplicate the photo's that didn't have
some real significance.
As you can see, energy efficient
homes don't have to be ugly or expensive. The Hathorn home
looks like many other homes on the outside with about 30-40%
the power bill. An energy efficient home can be built for
10-15% more than an inefficient home. Take the time to
research your builder and opinions before building your
home.

The front doors are approximately 7' x 7' to give some idea
of the size of this home.

*$91.87 was
last report. That includes the $12 monthly user fee which
is $5 more than the user fee for the Newby or Remy homes.
