The Rest of
the Package.
Wet
cellulose (which carries no health hazard warnings) was used
in the interior walls and R-48 ceiling in comparison to the
normal R-30 to R-38 value. The cellulous was blown over most
of the ducting to allow for more insulation of the ducts.
Radiant barriers were applied on the interior roof sheathing
from the factory by Louisiana Pacific Techshield to reduce
heat entering the attic space. The manufacture boasts 95% of
the heat will be diverted from the attic. The concrete slab
was insulated with styrofoam shied on the exterior edges of
the foundation.
Blown Cellulous in the attic.
Radiant barriers comes applied to the decking when using
Techshield.
Other Features:
Girard roof shingles were installed at 20% the weight of
concrete shingles. Besides the guaranteed withstanding
rating of 160 mph, the shingles also sit two inches above
the roof decking allowing for airflow underneath the
shingles and further preventing heat buildup in the attic.
The energy efficient package was made complete by installing
Anderson Low-E insulated glass throughout the house.
Casement windows were used due to their superior tight seal.
Windows were limited on the east and west sides of the home
to avoid thermal gain. This complete home comfort package
has four air changes a day when using Retrotec's
Infiltrometer blower door instead of the typical eight air
changes and a total projected annual heating, cooling and
hot water for this home is $401.
